Manchester training information! - New people please read

Postby Obsidian » Sun Nov 02, 2008 5:18 pm

There are regular training sessions in Manchester on the following days:

Tuesday evenings from 6pm (mainly strength training & conditioning)
Thursday evenings from 6pm (parkour)
Saturdays from around 10:30am (parkour)

The usual meeting spot is near the Spar shop on Sackville Street. You'll find a map here

In wet weather, we meet at either the Business School, or at an undercover spot at the back of Piccadilly train station. This is located at the back entrance to Piccadilly Metrolink stop, just by the Taxi rank.

Everyone is welcome to come along to any of the sessions whether you have previous parkour experience or not.

For those of you who have been asking about where you can purchase a Northern Parkour T-shirt or hoodie, here's the link: NP T Shirts

It's outdoors, it's best to learn things outside because if you learn them in a safe environment first then it will be alot more difficult to learn them outside.

Bear in mind that when we're training, we're not running structured lessons as such. Having said that, you will be around plenty of experienced practitioners who will be more than happy to offer you help and advice on getting started with your parkour training. It's best to start small and build up to things over time. We'll hopefully see you soon.

Remember you can bring your fitness up to par by just doing parkour, walking, running, crawling, balancing, climbing, vaulting, and jumping will not only improve you fitness but also improve your overall skill level with parkour.

If you search on the internet im sure you can find a few websites that will exaplain how to perform certain movements, http://www.urbanfreeflow.com has a section were they have small videos of each movment, and http://www.parkourgeneration.com have some good articles which should help you get started. All ways remember to start small and try to seek out another more expireanced tracuer as actual face to face help can be drasticly better than reading about it or watching it in a video.

i'm a firefighter out here in iraq, so i do about an hour or two of working out a day. usually i mix it up throughout the week with a few days of cardio, a day or two of martial arts/heavy bag, and a day of body weight calisthenics. i'll try and keep in mind some exercises that will help me with explosive power and such. unless you have any other suggestions...

If you get one of the trams that says "Piccadilly" on it, then you'll be much closer.. Text me when you get there and I'll either come meet you or give you directions :)
