Two experienced free runners needed for short film

PostPosted on Mon Feb 08, 2010 8:52 pm

We are currently looking for two experienced free-runners to take part in a short film involving a long chase scene displaying many parkour skills. There will be a minimal amount of acting/dialogue as the film will focus mainly on the parkour skills of the individuals.

The film we be shot in and around Manchester hopefully some time during March or early April.

Unfortunately there will be no funds available. You will obviously credited for your work and will receive the final film on dvd. Im sure you could make use of professional filming of your skills.

If you are interested please get in touch by emailing me at lukefraser10@hotmail.co.uk

(if possible, can a picture be attached. Also any sort of video with your skills/moves would be most helpful)

A little more information would be nice :)
For starters:
What is the film about?
Who is involved?
What is it intended for?
What age group are you looking for? [As many freerunners are quite young these days]

Also how much footage of freerunning do you require? In other words I mean how much time would you require from the participants?

Peace

Hello, thanks for posting an interest in our short film.

We are Film Students based at Staffordshire University, currently nearing the end of our 2nd year. There are 2 of us in the group but we could probably get more crew if we need them. 1 of us is actually from Manchester so this is why we are filming it here.

Our actual task is to edit a short piece and colour grade it (ie. make it stylistic, film quality etc).

As storyline goes, we are in the middle of construction but we know its going to be fast paced with various free running scenes. The idea will be based around some sort of chase, this may include cars/bikes etc but this isn't certain yet. We need a reason for the chase and this is what we are working on at the moment.

Acting wise, minimal will be needed. Everything will be fast paced so acting isn't a priority. There may be a few closes up of the face and a small part of dialogue needed between the 2 characters but nothing more.

Ok the other questions i can see:

Age wise, i would say late teens upwards. ie 17 and up. Dont get me wrong if you are an older looking 15/16 year old etc, thats fine.

Intended for: A video editing module for our Film Production degree. (also any purpose you see fit for, this could be a small showreel as such for you to use where you want.) The film will be made using Brand new HD Panasonic cameras. We can have as many as we need really. It will also be edited on professional non-linear editing system.

We hope to give you more information and will start sending emails about as soon as we are ready with a story and schedule for the film. Anymore questions we will be more then willing to answer.

Another note, it would be very helpful to us, if you know the area and know the best spots for free running. This can only help us with ideas for shots etc. I know the city but obviously am not a free runner so wouldn't know the best spots and what you can do in certain areas etc

Please keep posting on this thread if you are interested.

yeah it sounds pretty interesting, there aren't many good freerunning chases.
as a reasons for a chase may i suggest maybe a stolen cheese... an Edam or a mild cheddar, possibly ever a red Leicester. Gloucestershire has a long tradition of chasing though it's more often associated with hills and a more rural environment. for a retro effect you could use a dairylea.
also Manchester is a great city for the cinematography of a parkour based film, we use such a varied range of locations i'm sure you can find the shots your looking for... try looking at the video "parkour nature of the challenge" for ideas. also when are you thinking of shooting.

I like this new angle, maybe, they dropped there cheese and it rolled away so they have to use parkour to catch it, so I think dairylea would be a good choice as that's already kind of been done and is like erm, it seems normal as oppose to the others I guess, but yeah other than that maybe the Gloucestershire one would be the other option, completely up to you though 8)

Maybe as a new twist, it's an experimental new spherical cheese? and that's how it rolls away around corners and everything. I mean I don't know where you'd get the spherical cheese prop but damn, i'd pay to see that film.

(btw, in case u ddnt realise, thats a probable no...unless anyone wants to disagree with me...(tbh, i was interested, until you used free-runners and parkour in the same sentence...thus proving limited knowledge of the subject...(and if you want to see amazing parkour chases, involving cars, bikes, guns etc, may i direct you to District 13//District 13: Ultimatum....(AKA Banlieue 13//Banlieue 13:Ultimatum))))

I can't see myself being motivated unless this new Cheese angle is involved. I guess it wouldn't have to be cheese, any dairy product would probably be just as good I suppose.

first off, just because you have a driving license does not mean you will be able to drive here...and also, you aren't old enough to hire a car...

second, if you're going to open brackets "(" at least close them...")"

sorry haha... and yeh i have already checked out the road rules about my license and it says that i will be able to drive here.... seeing as i will be here for less than 12 months i am allowed to drive on my current license without having to sit further tests... i know i can't hire a car but my family is in manchester because it is where i was born so i will be driving one of their cars... also why must you be so negative and shut down anyone who speaks up... and why would you be paying attention to grammar when all i am doing is informing the thread when i might be able to help... when i'm handing in my uni english paper in to you then i'll pay absolute attention... if you don't have anything nice (or helpful) to say, then don't say anything at all.

and also natterz... seeing as i do parkour AND freerunning, maybe the creator of this thread was looking for people skilled in both... so don't insult the person and maybe ask why they said that or if they wanted both next time

callum - this is northern PARKOUR...hence we are about parkour, and not free-running...i wasnt insulting anyone, was just stating a fact...it wasnt just me saying stuff, so why do you have to be negative about just me then?

i was just saying i dont know the rules, and so you might want to get them checked out before you come over here with intentions that would not be able to be fulfilled

nath - what????
