With Wimbledon climaxing this week, I thought it was appropriate for Dave's infamous Tennis Analogy to be brought to light again:
One analogy to help people understand this is tennis. Imagine the question, "What is tennis?"
Is tennis the backhand volley, or the lob? Whole matches can pass without involving a backhand volley or a lob so you'd have to say no. Tennis can involve those shots but it doesn't have to. Trying a backhand volley when the ball is falling 10 metres in front of you on your forehand side is not tennis, it's just ridiculous. If you hit a ball to someone's forehand and they kneel down, swap sides and just about get it over the net with a backhand volley, how stupid do they look to you?
That's exactly how people who make videos with spins and aimless movements in look to us.
Tennis is not the shots, it is not about having the perfect backhand volley, it's returning the ball in the most appropriate way to win the point.
Parkour is not the techniques, it is not about having the perfect turn vault, it's moving in the most appropriate way to get to where you are going.
I'M BACK, BABY!

A life without limits on adventure is likely to be short.
