Hello everyone, its been a while since I have used these forums but I am back as I be in sheffield, Manchester and other areas and i hope to see you around
. I have been working on an article which i think needs to be addressed or to be heard but i wanna know your views. I haven't made a huge start but the title is called "actions speak louder than words" there is a meaning behind the title which looks pretty obvious when you read it but after traveling around the uk, i have noticed there are alot of scenes that can be quite competitive and because they have a good jump or just very good physically at moving, i think the spirit or philsophy isn't really there because they are either motivated by showing off, making money, internet fame for a few words of praise on youtube.
I have spoke to alot of these practitioners and as one of them said the spirit is "bollocks"if you wanna get better jumping walls then just go out jumping walls, you wanna run faster then simply go out and get better requires no philsophy". I personally find this the wrong attitude all together as it doesn't show the desire of progression to become a better person mentally, physically and spiritually for the goals that we wanna achieve. They just say that parkour is nothing more than moving efficently i mean yes we do practise so we can be more efficent but we have to practise an array of movements, adapt to our enviroment and to challenge ourselves within it. I mean for parkour we are practising for life we can take many of its lessons away from it, not to be just strong in training but also in life whatever the obstacle. I mean there is alot of places that talk about parkour, talk about the philsophy and the spirit of parkour and i believe that it isn't gone but it is certainly diluted and because of other websites and other people they never touch on this so they don't understand this issue. It is like if a site such as urban freeflow calls itself the offical website for parkour and free running, beginners will go on these websites believe every single word 100% of the time and take away alot of rubbish which goes against the philsophy of parkour.
I just want to know your views on this because lately it seems that people who are more physically capable, i am referring to the ones who don't give 2 craps about the spirit or the philsophy of parkour who are motivated by nothing else then some of there selfish motivates like making money and people keep believing them.
I think my questions are will parkour communities around the globe will one day see past this ? i mean as long as people keep doing what they are doing today then this could keep going due to this. How do you think it effects the parkour community ? I mean we are trying to show society and explain what parkour is but if someone with wrong motivates such as promoting competition then it confuses society because when i first started i found it hard to understand. I mean there are no easy answers in life and the information will not always be there so you have to go out and do the research but the chances in the british public doing this seems quite low because it has been many years and i go out people say "look at those base jumpers" or come up to me and say "so you going into the freerun world championships" which i think this is a total wrong idea of what parkour is about. How do we improve this problem so others can understand parkour ?.
I know this was a long read compare to my other posts and i have had quite abit of time to think about this but i would love to hear your views on this.
Train soon with you guys and girls
